There is no damage stat in game, thats why damage doesnt go up. How deadly are injuries is another option (In Meta I think). For "Damage" esque thingies, it makes zombies have an easier time grabbing you and pulling you down. Even on apocalypse, without cheese, you can just base in some areas that are 100% safe.
