The tube goes above the oil level so that you don't empty the entire transmission just to change the filter. What keeps the filter full is the pump sucking oil through it. The tube made reference to above is in the rear housing.It could be as simple as a linkage problem between the PTO operating lever and the control valve spool. Could be a problem with the valve itself, or the oil supply to it. Could be with the integrity of the passages between the valve and the clutch piston (seals, seal rings, O rings, etc) I would start at the linkage.

That platform was not designed for more than 100HP, which is why these tractors are so bulletproof and great. IH should've designed a different platform for the 100HP+ tractors, and a different engine.The 86 series IH went to wiring the hi and low switches in parrellel by using a relay. In the earlier series {66} they were wired in series. That made it easier to diagnose. The 826's sell well in this area. I suspect the repair would cost 2G's. I have been searching more on this topic and one person had used Bar's stop leak and had good success.

Any flow that does not go through the orifice goes to the oil cooler and then returns to lube the range transmission and rear end.128.
