Guided notes are instructor-prepared handouts that provide students with background information and standard cues with specifi c spaces to write key facts, concepts, and/or relationships during the lecture. Guided notes (GN) require students to actively respond during the lecture, improve the accuracy and effi ciency of students’ notetak-generating notes, including opportunities to work in small collaborative groups to determine how the notes should be written. The teacher provides guided practice by providing feedback during this stage. The eventual goal is for students to take two-column notes independently from a variety of sources (You do it).
