For anyone else landing here from Google all these years later - I had the unofficial Skyrim Patch installed and still had a similar issue. The books were treated as quest items in my inventory, the shards were showing as aetherium shards, and Katia was there but the quest wasn't active for some reason.Then, exit Arkngthamz the way you came in. I'm stuck. I've followed the ghost and managed to collect three of the 4 Aetherium Shards by following indivators on the map. Unfortunatley, after collecting shard three, there is no indicator to where the final shard is located. Is this a glitch OR did I miss something signifigant that is causing the location of Shard four not to present itself? There is also a shard here in the Storage Room seperate form the dungeon itself. Mzulft is located in the Rift. Simply go to Riften and follow the mountain range closely heading towards Windhelm.supposed to be map markers for this quest...I met the ghost girl and got the 1st shard, she tells me that there are 3 more I think and I got the quest showing I need the other shards, plus here notes with the map...but when I have the quest active there are no map markers of where to go.
