Toyota rav4 clicking noise when starting
Since I got this Rav in November, there has been a soft buzzing sound (sometimes clicking) coming from the very back of the vehicle when the engine was turned off. This buzzing would occur for all the time the vehicle was off. While none of my previous Ravs made this sound, and neither did my wife's Rav4 (also a 2020 XLE), I did not concern my ...Toyota's are notorious for the contacts in the starter wearing out. I had this same problem with my camry. I replaced the solenoid contacts and it was fine. There may also be a problem with the ring gear on the flexplate like Kep had said. It started doing this yesterday but eventually it would crank but after I got home last tried to start it and have tried all through the night.

It only happens when the car is in reverse and only when the brakes are applied after they've been fully released. If I keep my foot on the pedal, without letting it fully disengage, and press it again it doesn't make the noise. I can drive up to 65km/h then put transmission in neutral and it will still whistle through the speed range. The whistling is the loudest when; 1. Its cold outside. 2. The engine is still warming to normal operating temp. Once the engine is up to normal operating temp it occurs infrequently but still does occur..Look up ”Strut Mount” to see what it does. The strut mount is likely worn out, which may be one explanation why you hear clicking noise, while turning the steering wheel, in Park; EXCESSIVE movement due to worn/broken strut mount.
