Between them with use I get about 1.2 mpg better mileage, Think if I did more highway driving I'd do even better, but my driving is more mixed, city/highway. That average is over nearly 50K miles and 15 months of record keeping using and not using mds.Or, you can disable MDS by enabling tow/haul mode. All Ram 1500's have the "gear select buttons" as you call them. They are actually gear limit switches. They limit the highest gear the transmission can use. But you're correct that you can disable MDS with them, or with tow/haul mode.
