Only 20 of the total 35 star cores are required for the quest.You don't actually need her fro the quest. You only need her if you insist on following quest markers. If you're siding with the raiders, all you need to do is clear out the area and raise a flag. Nothing is stopping you from collecting the star cores and plugging them in.
