As alluded to, there are different methods for nitriding at varying costs. I would prefer the Nitride, but would like to know which method they use. Nitride is the recent, more popular coating to phosphate and chrome-lining for barrel finishes as of late. Be careful of half-arsed Nitriding. Nitride tends to be "glossy" if that matters to you.Nitride, Melonite and phosphate are all surface treatments - not coatings. If it says the barrel is nitride finished, it means the barrel is finished with a nitride treatment - and all that entails. If it is finished in phosphate, it is finished with a phosphate treatment of the barrel.
