What pisses me off about the varget is I've loaded for 2 different friends rifles and they shoot bug holes with it. One is a pre 64 model 70 fwt and the other was a savage (of all things). The savage shot better than both of my 308 bolt guns so it wasn't a good thing Heck, I'm willing to give it another try with my pre 64 model 100 308. On my rifles both give good accuracy but what stands out to me is the lower SD, higher velocity and I can go a little longer before cleaning. (brass or primers don't seem to make any difference) Shooting 300+ you might need a hotter load though. There's a thread of go-to .308 loads going on now.While there are number of exceptional powders for 223 Remington, Varget is a no brainer when you have a lot of it. I used 3 different Sierra bullets, the 52 BTHP, 69 SMK and 55 HP. Since this rifle feeds from an AR magazine, OAL was limited to 2.250″ and the long heavy bullets were off the table.
